Sprouts - habitual name for marine and freshwater, demersal crustaceans from several families in row obunogs. They have a characteristic laterally flattened, arched body up to 2 cm long, in which the head, thorax and abdomen can be distinguished. On the thorax there are legs, by which the animal moves through the water by swimming or crawling among plants and stones. Gudgeons live on the bottom of bodies of water, and are often found in large numbers.
In the territory of Poland, in freshwater and in the Baltic Sea, lives about 20 species native, including[footnote needed]:
