Imitation of a small crayfish is appreciated by anglers , who have specialized in fly fishing for barbel - a magnificent, ferocious fish. They use this bait in the method of the lower nymph, or run it near the bottom on a long line like a wet fly. Bites of other species with such fishing are not uncommon. Shellfish imitations are, of course, very popular when fishing for sea trout. Interestingly, my spinning friend successfully catches perch on such crawlers, using the side-trout method.
Let's make an imitation of crayfish in a tube version.
I embed a 3 mm plastic tube in the vise holder. I form a collar by burning the end of the tube with a flame.
Just behind the collar I tie a not very rich bundle of hair, rubber feelers, and eyes.
Now I am attaching two sections of monofilament. On the thicker one (0.40) I will mount the ballast. The thinner one (0.20) will serve as a wrap. In the place of tying I apply a bit of dubbing.
I tie imitation tongs. I made them from properly trimmed hen's neck feathers.
I build a trunk from dubbing, on it I wind a not too dense blackberry.
Just behind the pliers with two coils of wrapping I attach the material for the armor - it can be a body stretch strip. With the fishing line I thread the torso and the blackberry. I arrange the armor on the trunk, stretch it, and tie it just behind the trunk.
I turn the fly over in a vice. On the line I thread metal beads - the amount and weight as desired.
I stretch the line and tie in the place of fixing the armor. The tying point should be carefully taped. Thus formed a kind of keel, which will stabilize the position of the lure in the water.
I tie a feather like the one I used for the pliers and blackberry. I wind the abdomen from the dubbing.
I cover the abdomen with body stretch, rewind with fishing line. I cut off the tube just behind where the ”tail” is tied. I carefully trim with a flame, forming a collar.
Ready cancer. Armed and dangerous.
