Europe 12
by Kuba Chruszczewski
The fly originated in France, it was born even before the second century CE, and this is probably all that can be said about it for sure. There are several hypotheses about its authors, but we won't go into them. The important thing is that Europe 12 - for it is referred to - is one of the better usable imitations of the imago (perfect stage) of the caddisfly. It is immensely popular in Western Europe, peculiarly in Scandinavia. In our country it is less popular, and I don't know why, after all it is an extremely effective fly, and very simple to make and not very demanding when it comes to the choice of materials. All you need are breast feathers of a wild duck, a decent "dry" cock for the hackle and something for the torso in a "crisp" color - that's all.
1. Breast feathers of the whooping duck(female), may also be similar, obtained from other species of game birds.

2. In the vice, the dry fly hook.

3. in the split thread I put dubbing, twist.

4. wind the trunk in the direction of the arrowhead, rewind by returning the thread.

5. breast feather I tie from the top so as to form a flat lying canopy....

6. ... this is how it should look from above.

7 I make a scrambler by winding it in the direction of the wings, I reinforce it with counter-twisting coils of the leading thread. I form the head.

8. varnishes the head with shellac. The bow tie is ready.

9. E-12 in sundry shades.
