Increasingly, fly fishermen are looking for sea trout in the sea. Those who are no longer satisfied with the winter „plowing” of Pomeranian rivers in pursuit of the dubious fun of hauling an emaciated kelt, or with the high risk of failure in the hunt for silverfish, are slowly beginning to discover the charms of sea fly fishing. We started much later than our Baltic neighbors, the Scandinavians or the Germans. They on the subject of sea trout fishing already know a lot. We can learn a lot from them. It is easy to travel now, the borders are open, Denmark or Sweden are not far away. It is worth going there and observing. Take a look at the equipment, technique, flies....

The latter can be roughly divided into two groups. Both contain imitations of the sea trout's natural food. The first of these is fish. Sea trout - unlike those residing in the river - normally feed, and an important part of their food are species of small fish exterminating in the coastal zone. Tobias, sandeels, young herring.

In part one I show two examples of baits that imitate fish. In part two we will deal with invertebrates.

Materials:

For this type of fly, it is necessary to use the softest possible mobile material that will work well. I used a synthetic material commonly known as „carpet”. It is a type of artificial fur in various colors. In addition, a glossy material like Flashabou, fast-drying glue and two-component epoxy resin ten minutes, self-adhesive holographic eyes.

And, of course, a good nautical hook.

We will tie the materials in reverse, that is, with the ends facing forward. We tie them to the hook in reverse order, than they will later be arranged on the finished fly. From the bottom of the shank - a short puff of red and a longer one of white. From the top in turn - black, dark blue, flash, light blue.

Carefully apply a little fast-drying glue at the binding point.

Now we bend all the tied material to the back. Carefully press the material with your fingers where the glue was applied. This operation should pre-form the shape of the fly.

Photo.4.

With a soft copper wire we tie the material in the middle of the stem. Then we glue the eyelets and cover the head along with the eyelets with epoxy resin.

Photo.5.

Now you need to wait for the resin to harden. This is best done by holding the fly in your fingers. As long as the resin does not harden, we can control its flow by changing the position of the fly accordingly.

When the resin is no longer flowing we untie the wire. The bow tie is ready.

The use of different types of materials in different colors allows to create many interesting patterns.

Materials:

Two sea hooks, strong braid, pearl mylar, ten-minute epoxy two-component resin, holographic eyes.

Photo.8.We tie a section of strong braided line to the hook, the knot is further secured with a leading thread and taped.

Photo.9.

We thread a section of mylar onto the braid and attach it with a leading thread where we tied the braid to the hook.

Photo.10.

In the vise we attach the front hook - it should be a number larger and made of thicker wire. Such an arrangement will properly balance the fly and cause an attractive wavy movement when pulled up, especially when tying the fly to the leader on a loose loop. We thread the braid through the eye of the hook.

Photo.11.

We bend the braid back and tie it tightly together with the mylar to the hook.

Photo.12.

Stick on the eyes, pour epoxy resin over the head. You can paint our fly with waterproof markers.

  1. Mops are ordinary "cloth" in the form of a mop that you meet in stores like Pepco, Bricomarche or slippers from Aliexpress, at least....

  2. Is there a chance for links to materials? Greetings Matthew

  3. Adam, my opinion is this. Since someone, once created(a set of materials, arrangement of wings, etc) gave a name to something( in this case a bow tie....
