I once observed a rainbowfish that was feeding just offshore attacking a flock of small fish in 'asp' style - most likely it was a roach fry, maybe dace. Fish the size of a matchstick were translucent, you could see orange fins and a slightly darker back.I decided to build an imitation of such a fish. Light colors, delicate wings, a sparing orange accent.... I think I succeeded, the lure was eagerly attacked by lake rainbows, later I also successfully fished with it for brookies in the river. It is worth attaching such a modestly dressed fly to the leader wherever predators feed on small minnows, dace or chub.

1.I tie a bunch (4-5) of peacock feather rays to a hook with an extended shank with colorless thread.

2 I leave the thread at the binding point. I build a spindly trunk by applying layers of white synthetic silk. I leave about 1/5 of the shaft free.

3. I put the peacock rays so that they settle only on the top of the trunk. The colorless thread stays in place.

4. from a pair of jsno cream rooster neck feathers I make matuka type wings attaching them to the trunk with colorless thread.

5. just behind the wings I wind a sparing blackberry of orange feather. I tie two peacock rays.

6.I twist the rays with the leading thread, winding a rather large conical head. I seal the knot with shellac. Done.

  1. Mops are ordinary "cloth" in the form of a mop that you meet in stores like Pepco, Bricomarche or slippers from Aliexpress, at least....

  2. Is there a chance for links to materials? Greetings Matthew

  3. Adam, my opinion is this. Since someone, once created(a set of materials, arrangement of wings, etc) gave a name to something( in this case a bow tie....
