May Fly Wet

Fly fishermen taking advantage of the short period of time, when in some fisheries, once a year for a few to several days the mayfly appears en masse, most often fish with a dry fly. The ease of observing a large imitation and spectacular bites speak for the choice of this particular method. Sometimes, however, the wet fly seems to be more effective than the dry fly. This happens when fish are less eager to attack perfect insects flowing on the surface. One gets the impression that a nymph in the last stage of transformation just below the surface is more attractive to them. Sometimes they also selectively pick up insects that have failed to transform and swim entangled in a moult that has not been fully shed. Finally, after mating flight, both male and female mayfly mayflies die and also become fish food. For such occasions, it is useful to have a few wet mayflies in the box. We fish with them just below the surface, using a floating line.

To the hook with an extended shank I tie sequentially:

The tail of a few rays of a pheasant's rudder, golden lamette, in 2/3 of the length of the trunk yellow-dyed rooster neck feather.

I make a torso of creamy yellow wool, on the front part of the torso I wind the first blackberry from a cockerel feather, I reinforce everything with lamet. Then I tie a feather to the second blackberry - a mallard duck breast feather stripped of rays on one side, dyed yellow.

I wind the second blackberry. It should be not too dense, the rays should reach about halfway down the tail.

I cut a V-shaped segment from the symmetrical breast feather of a mallard duck, colored like the other blackberry.

Thus prepared, I tie the wings from the top, trying to arrange them in a canopy on the back of the fly.

Materials needed to make a wet maypole:

  -yellow dubbing

-cock feathers and breast feathers of the mallard duck dyed yellow

- gold lamella

- rays of the rudder of a rooster of a game pheasant

- hook with extended shank

  1. Mops are ordinary "cloth" in the form of a mop that you meet in stores like Pepco, Bricomarche or slippers from Aliexpress, at least....

  2. Is there a chance for links to materials? Greetings Matthew

  3. Adam, my opinion is this. Since someone, once created(a set of materials, arrangement of wings, etc) gave a name to something( in this case a bow tie....
