Rapper
by Kuba Chruszczewski
Rapper, or asp popper. Actively feeding on bleak "raps" are often provoked by a large, bright fly guided quickly on the surface. A fly guided by jumping is supposed to splash, make noise and push the water. Such aggressive work is achieved by a properly shaped front part of the fly. We make it from winter deer hair, shearing it appropriately - just like in muddler flies.
1 I place a fairly wide, but not too heavy hook in a vise. I tie a strong white leading thread.

2.At the height of the spearhead I attach a fairly generous bunch of pearl silver shade flash. I tie the flash more or less in 2/3 of its length.

3.I draw the flash to the left, bind, strengthen the binding site with glue.

4.Like the flash I tie a bunch of synthetic bristles ("craft fur"), it should be a little shorter than the flash.

5.Now I fill the free section of the hook shank tightly with white deer winter hair. Firmly pressing to the left each tied strand I cover the entire hook shank.

6 I cut the hair into the shape of a cone tapering towards the tail of the fly. The resulting head is to be quite wide, with a flat forehead - this will ensure that the fly works properly during a fast retrieve.

7 Rapper ready - this one is about 9 cm.
