Jaap Kalkman, a British Columbia-based fishing guide and steelhead fishing expert, has teamed up with our Pike Terror Flies specialists from under the Pike Terror Flies brand. The result of this collaboration is a very successful design called Runner („runner”, the name comes from the "snow runner" coat used) It's a sizable, heavy tube fly designed to catch the migratory salmonids of the Pacific basin, primarily migratory rainbows.

The combination of well-chosen materials and mass concentrated in the front part of the fly make it an excellent lure. Made in more „Atlantic” colors, it proved to be effective for our brookies. I believe that a sufficiently large -15-20 cm., will also work well for catching loggerheads.

On the tube seated in the vice, I make a coil of leading thread on which the metel ball will rest. Before inserting the ball it is necessary to put a drop of glue.

Just behind the ball I tie a bunch of hair.

Now a second bundle, slightly longer and in a different color.

I comb the hair back, tie it tightly „in a zipper”, add a few strands of flash, and seal the binding.

I tie a down feather on a blackberry.

I make a blackberry in the form of a collar using feathers in different colors.

I seal the knot. I press the conehead onto the tube, sinking the end of the tube.

  2. Is there a chance for links to materials? Greetings Matthew

  3. Adam, my opinion is this. Since someone, once created(a set of materials, arrangement of wings, etc) gave a name to something( in this case a bow tie....
